STATEMENT OF COVENANT

We covenant to acknowledge God's claim upon our lives and the work in the Covenant Association. We seek through this covenantal relationship:

  • to share common ministry with authorized ministers and local churches.
  • to affirm our faith in the living God, Eternal Spirit, Creator and Sustainer, who is revealed in the teachings, the person, and the work of Jesus as the Christ.
  • to strengthen the ties of faith and community.

Notes from the Moderator:

The Fall meeting September 27 at Countryside Trinity Church in Saginaw was a brief but powerful meeting!  24 churches, 20 clergy, 26 lay, and 12 visitors attended.  The theme, Vitality in Covenant. was truly expressed in the gathering.

The meeting opened with a scrumptuous brunch which provided opportunity to meet new people and discuss congregational vitality.  Edgewood UCC, East Lansing performed a skit that we all found too true and funny.  Others expressions of vitality:
       1. welcoming love extended beyond the congregation
       2. music in worship
       3. programs emerging from lay leadership - Women of God
       4. open mind and heart - getting along
       5. conflict and doubt inspire growth in faith and hope
       6. cooperating churches join in common ministry
       7. National Youth Event inspires Chelsea youth to lead
          musically
       8. Pinckney hosted the African Children's Choir
       9. participating in mission trips such as Borderlinks or
Back Bay
      10. Charlotte - pasotr is volunteer fire chaplain
      11. Pilgrim - Sacred Conversations
      12. Haslett - Food Pantry
      13. Justice and Witness Ministry
      14. General Synod - "Emerse Yourself" be a volunteer!

10 churches received anniversary recognition and the budget was unanimously passed in Bob Heisler's absence.  Robert Strozier was significantly missed.

Vitality was the spirit of the day.

God's peace be with you,
Rev. Jean Winther, pastor Breckenridge Congregational UCC
